Suprachromacy

Marcus Wendt of London studio Field travelled to Lanzarote to photograph native plants using infrared technology. His project, Suprachromacy, reveals cacti and light-absorbing species in vibrant, unexpected hues—blues, oranges and vivid greens invisible to the human eye. Inspired by Isaac Newton's inquiry into the nature of colour, Wendt explores whether colour is inherent to objects or a subjective sensation. "These alien colour spectra spark ideas about how we see colour, how much depth is locked up in the colour green," he notes, questioning what plants might appear like under different suns.
